Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about VoLog, how it works, your data, and Discord usage.

Discover VoLog

What VoLog is for and how it fits into a campaign.

What is VoLog?

VoLog is a space designed to keep a clear record of your tabletop roleplaying campaigns.

It helps you gather your notes, revisit important moments from a session, and reread your story more easily. The goal is not to add friction during play, but to help you preserve what happens around the table.

Does VoLog interrupt the game?

No. VoLog is designed to stay discreet during play.

You keep playing normally, and you only use it when it helps, during or after the session.

Can I use VoLog even if the rest of the group does not?

Yes. One person can use it to keep track of the campaign.

The rest of the group, including the GM, does not need to change their habits for VoLog to be useful.

Using VoLog

Take notes, revisit a session, and share if you want to.

Do I need to type while we play?

Not necessarily. You can write during the session, take notes afterward, start from paper notes, or use Discord if that feels more natural for your table.

VoLog is there to adapt to the way you play, not to force a method on you.

What can I get after a session?

VoLog can help you revisit a session in different forms, depending on what is most useful to you.

You can get a short version to quickly find the important points, or a more written version to keep a proper record of your adventure. The goal is to help you prepare what comes next and follow your campaign more easily over time.

Can I keep things private or share them?

Yes. Your content stays private by default.

If you choose to share a campaign or a session, you stay in control of what becomes visible.

Where should I write my session notes?

The simplest approach is to write in the space dedicated to the session, where you keep track of what happened.

Then VoLog helps you revisit, organize, and rework that content more easily. In practice, it works like a living notebook: you put down the raw material first, then build on it afterward.

Privacy & control

Who can see your content, what is measured, and what you can remove.

Who can see my data?

Your notes and content belong to you. Other people cannot see them unless you choose to share them.

You stay in control of what remains private and what can be shown.

Can I stop using VoLog or remove some content?

Yes. You can stop using VoLog, remove shares, and delete content from your space.

The goal is for you to stay in control, without hidden mechanisms or lock-in.

Does VoLog track my activity on the site?

VoLog uses a very limited audience measurement to understand which pages are visited and improve the service.

It is not used to read your notes, analyze your campaigns, or run targeted advertising. It stays focused on how the site is used, with a low level of detail.

Plans & VoLog Credits

Understand credits, plans, and the general subscription model.

What are VoLog Credits for?

VoLog Credits are used for actions that help you rework or enrich your content.

Depending on what you launch, an action may use more or fewer credits. This makes it possible to use those tools when you need them, without making the whole app paid for every basic action.

What happens if I run out of credits?

You can keep using VoLog to read and organize your content, but some actions will no longer be available until you top up your balance.

If needed, you can buy a one-off pack to continue without changing plans.

What’s the difference between Observer, Chronicler, and Archivist?

All three plans give access to VoLog, but not with the same level of support.

Observer is made to discover the service and start using it. Chronicler goes further for people who want to rework their recaps regularly. Archivist is intended for the most complete uses, with more credits and broader possibilities.

How does the subscription work?

Paid plans give access to more VoLog Credits and more advanced possibilities.

Depending on the plan, billing can be monthly or yearly. The exact conditions shown when choosing a plan and during checkout are the ones that apply.

Discord

An optional use case, with clear consent and control over sharing.

Is Discord required to use VoLog?

No. VoLog can be used perfectly well without Discord.

Discord is simply an extra option for groups who already play with it.

How does a session work with Discord?

One person starts the recording in the voice channel, and a visible message lets everyone know a capture is running.

That recording can then be brought into VoLog and used as working material linked to a session. It gives you a starting point based on what was said, without forcing everyone to take notes live.

Do the people in the channel still have a choice?

Yes. No one should be recorded without clear information and without the ability to refuse.

Each person must be able to take part in the session without being forced into the capture.

Does VoLog keep Discord audio files?

Audio files are not kept longer than necessary.

They are deleted as soon as the written transcription has been produced. If that has not happened yet, they are deleted no later than 45 days after the recording.

Can I refuse a share or block that kind of sharing?

Yes. If a transcription or shared content is offered to you, you can refuse it.

You can also disable that type of sharing if you do not want to receive it.
