Give each voice the right character name

A sentence can mean something very different depending on who said it. A threat from the GM, a promise made by a character, and a comment between players may use similar words without carrying the same weight in the game.

After a Discord game, the transcript separates the people who spoke. VoLog cannot know the name of every character with certainty.

That small check belongs to the group.

Start from the transcript

Open the transcript you received after the game. Voices appear separately with each person's Discord name.

In the "Who is speaking?" section, add the character name that belongs to each useful voice. You can save the names you know and return to the others later.

The change immediately appears on the lines that are already in the transcript. You can read an exchange with the character beside the speaker without changing the words that were said.

You do not need to create a Session to do this. Naming voices is available directly in the free transcript you receive after a Discord game.

What about the GM and other participants?

The field is for a character name. When someone is not playing a character, leave it empty. Their Discord name remains visible in the transcript.

An empty field is better than a guess. The point is to add a detail you trust, not to fill every line at any cost.

If someone changes character during the game, use the name that makes most of the transcript easier to follow. You can explain an important change later in the Session if you choose to create one.

Reuse the choice next time

When the transcript belongs to a campaign, VoLog can reuse the chosen character name during another game with the same person.

You should not have to repeat every name each week. Check them when a new player joins, a character changes, or someone plays a different character for one game.

Without a campaign, the names remain limited to that game. This works well for a standalone adventure without carrying the choice into another story.

Why check before preparing the rest

Naming voices already makes the transcript easier to read. It is also a useful moment to notice a difficult microphone, passages missing from the transcript, or a name that needs correction.

If you later create a Session, those details follow the game. The characters and their lines are easier to understand in the Full note.

My advice is simple: open the section, name the characters you are sure about, then read a few exchanges. If the conversation makes sense on the first pass, you have done what matters.
