What do you get after recording a TTRPG game?
Recording a game does not yet answer the most important question: what will you actually be able to read after play?
An audio file can preserve several hours of conversation, but it is still awkward when you only need an NPC's name or the decision made at the end of one scene.
VoLog keeps the path simple: on Discord, the person who starts VoLog receives the short recap of the game and a transcript link by direct message. With an audio file, you create a Session directly.
After a Discord game
When the transcript is ready, the person who started VoLog receives the short recap of the game and a transcript link by direct message. The game is also available in the Workshop with the same Discord account.
The transcript and short recap of the game are free. The page also shows speaking time and keeps Discord voices separate. If some passages could not be transcribed, it says so.
The bot also posts a button in the last voice channel. Other participants can use it to request the short recap of the game by direct message.
You can link each voice to the GM, a PC, or a custom character name. That makes the transcript easier to follow, especially during a quick exchange between several people.
After adding your own file
With a file recorded on a phone, computer, or voice recorder, the path begins by creating a Session.
VoLog prepares the Full note first. You review it before the Session summary, Session report, Highlights, characters, locations, items, spells and powers are prepared.
The file contains every voice on the same track. Its transcript therefore remains continuous and does not attach each line to a specific person.
When a Discord game becomes a Session
From the game page, you can choose to create a Session. If it is standalone and you already have a campaign, you can attach it from the block. The cost appears before you confirm. Your first Session created from Discord or an audio file is free.
The transcript remains available. The Session adds the Full note, Session summary, Session report, Highlights, characters, locations, items, spells and powers.
You can decide after reading the transcript. An improvised one-shot may stay as it is. An important campaign chapter may become a Session that you can revisit, share, and find later.
Which part should you open?
To remember the evening in a few moments, start with the Session summary.
To check the exact words, open the transcript. To follow the detailed events without every hesitation, read the Full note.
Whether you are prepping the next game as the GM or looking back as a player, decisions, characters, locations, and highlights are often the most useful parts.
The best text is not always the longest one. It is the one that answers the question you have right now.
