Export your Sessions to Obsidian, or keep them wherever you want

I like tools that let me take my work with me. A campaign can last for years. Your notes should not become unusable just because you change your habits or decide to keep them somewhere else.

That is why you can download a copy of each VoLog Session. You choose what you want to keep, then place the file in Obsidian or any folder that works for you.

Choose what you want to take with you

Open the export action from a Session. VoLog shows the parts that are available. Depending on the Session, you may find:

• the Full note;
• the Session summary;
• other versions prepared for your group;
• highlights;
• characters;
• locations, items, spells and powers;
• useful links.

Parts that already contain text are selected by default. You can remove some, add others, and change their order before downloading the copy.

You do not have to take everything. For a personal archive, I usually keep the Full note and Session summary. When preparing the next game, the Highlights, characters and locations may be enough.

Why Markdown works well with Obsidian

Obsidian keeps notes in Markdown files. Behind that name is ordinary text with a few simple marks for headings, lists, and links.

Choose the Markdown export in VoLog. You will receive a file ending in ".md". Move that file into your Obsidian vault. It will appear beside your other pages, ready for you to edit like any personal note.

You can also open the copy with another editor that reads Markdown. The file does not need to remain connected to VoLog to stay readable.

An independent copy, not a permanent connection

The download creates a copy at that moment. If you later correct the Session in VoLog, the file already stored in Obsidian will not change by itself.

Download a fresh copy when you want the latest changes. This also means a personal page is never rewritten without you deciding to replace it.

There is no direct connection between VoLog and Obsidian. You move the file into your folder yourself. It is a very small step, but I would rather say it clearly than suggest automatic updates that do not exist.

What happens to the Session illustration

The text may contain a link to the Session illustration. The image itself is not copied into your Obsidian folder.

If you want an archive that still feels complete without an internet connection, download the cover too and keep it with your notes. Add the image to the note from inside Obsidian.

Exporting from a shared Session

When someone sends you a public Session link, you can also download a copy. You do not need to create an account to read the shared page and save the available text.

The person sharing it still controls the link and can turn it off. Downloading anything you want to keep is a sensible choice when the campaign matters to you.

Keep your own archive

VoLog is useful for reading, searching, and expanding a campaign. It should not stop you from organising those memories in another place.

You can keep a copy of every Session, make one folder per campaign, or build a chapter archive by exporting its Sessions one by one. Choose a rhythm that keeps your notes safe without creating another chore after every game.
