Connect VoLog to your AI assistant
Add the VoLog connector to Claude or Le Chat to look up details from past games and prepare the next one from your AI assistant.
Updated Oct 11, 2026
What the VoLog connector does
The VoLog connector lets your AI assistant read your VoLog campaigns and sessions. You can then ask it to find a detail from a past game or help you prepare the next one, without copying your notes over.
Access is read-only: your AI assistant can't edit, delete or share anything in VoLog. It only reads the content of your own account.
Before you begin
- A VoLog account.
- At least one session in the Workshop to get results. An account without sessions can connect, but your AI assistant will find nothing to read.
- For Claude: a Claude account. The VoLog connector is added as a custom connector, by its address, on every plan. Claude's free plan allows only one custom connector.
- For Le Chat: a Le Chat account. Custom connectors are free there. Adding one is reserved for the workspace administrator; on an individual plan, the account owner is the administrator by default.
The connector address is https://volog.app/mcp. You can copy it with the Copy button under Connector address, on the VoLog connector page of your account.
The Claude and Le Chat labels quoted in this guide come from their English documentation. Your interface may show them in your language.
Connect Claude
On the web or in the Claude desktop app:
- Open Customize > Connectors.
- Select Add custom connector.
- Enter a name, for example
VoLog, then the addresshttps://volog.app/mcp. - Leave the client ID and secret fields empty: VoLog doesn't need them. If Claude asks you to choose an Authentication method, choose Sign in now or Sign in when needed, never No sign-in: VoLog always asks you to sign in. If Claude offers several ways to identify itself, keep the recommended option, Use Claude's published identity.
- Confirm with Add.
- Select Connect. Claude opens VoLog: sign in if needed, check the authorization screen, then choose Allow.
In a conversation, open the + menu, then Connectors, and check that the VoLog connector is turned on.
On a phone, add the connector from the web or the desktop app: adding connectors from the Claude mobile apps is still in beta. Once it is added to your Claude account, it is also available in the mobile app.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an organization Owner adds the connector first. Each member then connects with their own VoLog account from Customize > Connectors, with Connect.
Connect Le Chat
- Open the Connectors page in Le Chat.
- Select + Add Connector, then the custom connector tab.
- Enter a connector name without spaces, for example
VoLog, then the server addresshttps://volog.app/mcp. - Select Connect. Le Chat detects the sign-in method and opens VoLog: sign in if needed, check the authorization screen, then choose Allow.
For Le Chat, the authorization screen shows Unverified app and appears at every new authorization. Only choose Allow if you just started the connection from Le Chat.
In a conversation, open the + menu or type /, select Tools, then turn on the VoLog connector.
Check the authorization screen
Before any access, VoLog shows the Connect your AI assistant screen. It shows:
- the name declared by the app requesting access and the VoLog account you are signed in with;
- after Returns to, the domain VoLog will send the response to, for example
claude.aifor Claude; - Verified app when VoLog recognizes the AI assistant's exact return address, like Claude's, otherwise Unverified app;
- a warning when the app runs on your computer or opens through software installed on your device, like the developer tools in the last section;
- the access requested, Read your Campaigns and Sessions, read-only;
- the sentence "What your AI assistant reads is subject to its own rules.";
- the notice "You can remove this access from your account at any time.".
Only continue if you just started the connection from your AI assistant. Deny returns to the app without giving it access.
After Allow, a verified app, like Claude, doesn't see this screen again until you remove its access. An unverified app, like Le Chat, or one that runs on your device, shows it at every new authorization.
What your AI assistant reads is subject to its own rules, for example on how long conversations are kept. VoLog doesn't control them: check your AI assistant's settings before you share your content with it.
The VoLog connector is included with your account. Your AI assistant's reads use no credits and require no purchase.
What you can ask
Once the connector is turned on, ask your AI assistant questions as usual. It queries VoLog when useful, and VoLog gives it the link to each item's page in the Workshop.
To find a campaign detail:
- "What did Varek promise the players three sessions ago?"
- "List the locations visited in the Crown of Ashes campaign."
To prepare your next game:
- "Write a recap to read to the table before we play."
- "Which story threads are still open? Suggest a few hooks."
The connector also offers two ready-made requests: Pre-game recap and Prepare the next Session. Pick the campaign; your AI assistant reads its latest sessions and writes the result. They appear in AI assistants that support them; Le Chat doesn't show them for a custom connector. You can always ask for the same thing in your own words.
Your AI assistant can read:
- your campaigns: name, game system, Campaign frame and Chronicle;
- your non-archived sessions and their available content: Full note, Session summary, Session report, Highlights and note variants;
- the sheets for characters, locations, items, and spells and powers.
What your AI assistant doesn't read
- transcripts;
- images: illustrations, portraits and media added to a note;
- Discord games that don't have a session;
- archived content;
- your VoLog Search history;
- public shares from other accounts and your favorites.
While a session is still being prepared, or its Full note is waiting for your review, your AI assistant reads none of its content.
Remove access
- Open the VoLog connector page from the VoLog connector tab of your account.
- In Connected apps, find the app. Each one shows its name, its label, its authorization date and when it was last used.
- Select Remove access, then confirm.
Removal takes effect immediately: the app's next request is refused, even if its access was just granted. Other apps keep theirs. To reconnect it, start the connection again from your AI assistant: the authorization screen appears again.
A new password, saved from the Password tab of your account or through a reset, removes access for all connected apps. An app left unused for 90 days also loses its access.
Removing access in VoLog doesn't remove the connector from your AI assistant or erase what it has already read: manage those in its own settings.
Troubleshooting
The connection fails or has expired
A connection request stays valid for 10 minutes. If VoLog shows Unable to connect with "This connection request has expired or was already handled", start the connection again from your AI assistant, for example with Connect in Claude. If VoLog says it couldn't check the app, try again in a moment.
The screen shows Unverified app
VoLog doesn't recognize the app's return address. This is expected with Le Chat and with a developer tool running on your computer. Only continue if you just started the connection from your AI assistant or your tool. For an AI assistant on the web, also check that the domain shown after Returns to is its own. Otherwise, choose Deny.
Your AI assistant finds nothing
- Check that the connector is turned on in the conversation.
- Check that the app appears in Connected apps on the VoLog connector page of the VoLog account that holds your sessions. When the authorization screen appears, it also shows the account you are signed in with.
- An account without sessions returns no results. Your AI assistant then receives a neutral message and a link to the Workshop.
- Archived sessions are never read. Restore them from the Workshop archives if your AI assistant needs to find them.
The call limit is reached
Each connected app can make up to 60 calls per minute, including 20 searches, and 2,000 calls per day. Beyond that, VoLog temporarily refuses its calls and your AI assistant shows an error. Wait a minute, or up to 24 hours if the daily limit is reached, then ask again.
Your AI assistant asks you to reconnect
After you remove access, change your password or leave the app unused for 90 days, the old connection no longer works. Start the connection again from your AI assistant, for example with Connect in Claude's Customize > Connectors, and sign in to VoLog if needed.
If you removed access or changed your password, the authorization screen appears again: choose Allow. After 90 days without use, a verified app, like Claude, reconnects without showing this screen; only choose Allow if it appears.
Contact support
If the problem persists, email contact@volog.app from the address of your VoLog account. Say which AI assistant you use, the step that fails and the message shown. Never send your password.
Connect Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code
These developer tools connect to the VoLog MCP server, https://volog.app/mcp, over HTTP, then open the VoLog connection in your browser. There is nothing else to enter: you sign in with your VoLog account.
Because the response usually returns to a program on your computer, the authorization screen then shows Unverified app with a warning, and appears at every new authorization.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http volog https://volog.app/mcp
Add the --scope user option to make the server available in all your projects. In Claude Code, then run /mcp and follow the sign-in steps in your browser.
Cursor
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for all your projects, or to .cursor/mcp.json for a single project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"volog": {
"url": "https://volog.app/mcp"
}
}
}
Then start the authentication Cursor offers for the volog server: the VoLog page opens in your browser.
VS Code
Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json for a project, or to the user configuration opened by the MCP: Open User Configuration command:
{
"servers": {
"volog": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://volog.app/mcp"
}
}
}
Confirm that you trust the server when VS Code asks. On the first connection, VS Code opens the VoLog page in your browser.
In these tools, the two ready-made requests are MCP server prompts named game_start_recap and prepare_next_session.
