Create a Session from an audio file

Add the audio file from your game, check its duration and displayed cost, then start creating the Session.

Open Create a Session from an audio file

Sign in to VoLog, then open Create a Session from an audio file.

This path is for adding a file prepared with a phone, computer, voice recorder or software such as OBS. After a Discord game, read the short recap of the game received by direct message, then open the transcript from its link or from the Workshop instead.

Describe the Session

  1. Enter the Session name.
  2. Select a campaign if needed.
  3. Add the game system if it is useful.
  4. Choose the language mainly spoken during the game.

VoLog supports French, English, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese, as well as automatic detection. Choosing a specific language helps when most of the conversation uses that language.

Add the file

Select one MP3, WAV, M4A, WEBM or OGG file. It must be no larger than 1 GiB and no longer than 8 hours.

An added file usually contains all voices in one track. The transcript is therefore continuous and does not assign passages to individual people.

Before sending the file, confirm that the people recorded were informed and that you have the permission needed to add and use it. Consent and data explains this requirement.

Check the cost

Creating a Session from a file costs 100 VoLog Credits per hour, calculated proportionally from its duration.

VoLog shows an initial estimate as soon as the duration is known. The Create Session button displays the cost before sending. Your first Session created from Discord or an audio file is free; when the button displays Free, no VoLog Credits are deducted.

After receiving the file, VoLog measures its duration again. A file longer than 8 hours is rejected; a difference from the first estimate may also adjust the cost before final creation.

Create the Session

Review the name, campaign, game system, language, file and displayed cost. Then select Create Session.

VoLog transcribes the file and prepares the Full note. When that note is ready, VoLog waits for your review before preparing the Session summary, Session report, Highlights, characters, locations, items, spells and powers.

VoLog deletes its copy of the audio file after processing. The providers used for transcription do not retain the file sent to them. Keep your original until the transcript is complete.

The next steps are covered in Review the Full note.
